Wednesday, December 31, 2008 Photos preserve good memories, and looking at them brings back those memories and feelings, fresh like they happened just yesterday. In a similar way, I have a repository of words, but it is a vault of radioactive waste, a Pandora's box of venom. After a chance encounter, I opened the repository to add a fresh specimen. After doing so, I couldn't help but look at the past exhibits, masochistically savouring every jerk my heart made along the way. After all, the only way to numb oneself to pain is to expose oneself to it. Or maybe it's because I'm meeting my Uncle Unhappiness (can't find a proper synonym for Aunt Agony) tomorrow, so I'm preparing my emo material. Hardly inspiring conversation material for a friend whom I meet biennially, but the subject gets brought up inevitably every time. Over the years, we've supported each other through countless snowstorms, so it is only natural for us to keep that up, even though I'm now the only one who still needs the support. Well, I feel better already, and I'll feel even better tomorrow after I dump a load of that radioactive waste on my hapless friend. =P Sunday, December 28, 2008 Bound and Gagged, 27/12/08Saturday, December 27, 2008 If you're looking for something to watch this holidays, I highly recommend this anime called Toradora! Toradora is a romantic comedy about Takasu Ryuuji, a high school student with fierce eyes, and Aisaka Taiga, nicknamed Palmtop Tiger because of her small frame and fierce temper. They each have a crush on the other's best friend, and end up helping each other with their love interest. I enjoyed this so much I finished 13 episodes in 3 days. Incidentally, this is also being broadcast on Okto, Thursdays nights 11.30pm (but that's pretty far ahead already). If you prefer reading material, the original light novels are available in English here. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 Results for this semester came out today. This is my best semester throughout these 4 years, but it still does not manage to haul my CAP above the 1st-class honours watermark. After some calculation, I have only 3 grades to "drop". This means that I either: get A- for my FYP, and A for both my remaining 2 modules OR get A for my FYP and at least an A- and a B+ for the 2 modules. OR I could just screw it all and enjoy my last semester as an undergraduate (and maybe as a student) doing something else. Like find a girlfriend (tongue firmly in cheek here). Thursday, December 18, 2008 Came across this article on a CEO's 12 laws of life, again courtesy of Lifehacker. He doesn't really offer anything new or unique, to those of us who've been paying to such stuff on a regular basis. However good things are worth reinforcing, so it's definitely worth a read. Who knows, you might gain something new from it. Personally, reading something motivational once in a while achieves its desired effect. That is, I do feel more motivated for a while. And in some cases, it reveals step one to solving some of the knots of life that's got me stuck. So do take a look at the article. And check out Lifehacker, also, unless you think reading whatever I sieve out is enough. =P Wednesday, December 17, 2008 Pearls Before Swine - 16 December 2008 Big alert for anyone who is still using IE: A loophole has been discovered that allows hackers to take over your computer and steal passwords. Security experts actually recommend using another browser, to protect yourself against this. Read the article here Even for those who are already using some other browser, caution still needs to be taken because many programs actually use an embedded IE browser. This means you'll still get hit if a program you're using loads an infected web page. There's really no defense against this, other than to "be careful", as Microsoft themselves say. Really, those who haven't should give Google Chrome a try. Friday, December 12, 2008 A very good article on etiquette for online social media (e.g. Facebook, Friendster). Wednesday, December 10, 2008 I came across this article on airport security measures not having any effect. I share the author's opinion that current security measures only serve to make things more difficult for common travellers without severely hindering terrorists at all. And what is worse is, they aren't even being properly enforced, as illustrated by the author's successful attempts to breach the system. If airport staff can't be bothered to enforce security, what are the rest of us suffering for? Monday, December 08, 2008 Monday, December 01, 2008 My brother showed me this cool stuff that involves making space paintings using spray paint. |
