Suddenly I wonder how I rate as a friend. What is the value of having me as a friend? Do I listen to your problems? Do I cheer you up? Do I offer wise advice? Do I show care and concern?

Admittedly I haven't been paying much attention to my friends. Like, since forever. I don't initiate meetups, I don't talk to them (not even on MSN nowadays), I barely know what they're up to. And recently I've become somewhat unfriendly even, always wanting to go home early, complaining about how much we're spending..

It's time for some self-reflection. I'll be thinking about it over this week.

Cover-Up

Thursday, February 12, 2009

I guess, a lot of the time, the people close to us hurt us without meaning to. And sometimes it is not their actions (or lack of it) that hurts us, but our own expectations of them that cause us grief. Many times, in many great and little ways, the people around us do things for us. Yet we still get upset with them because of the things that they didn't do. But maybe, when we weigh the things they do against the things that they don't, we'll discover that we cannot hold it against them for not doing so little, when they've already done so much.

R.I.P.

And I'd called a vet at noon, planning to bring it in today or tomorrow. It only started looking out of sorts on Saturday night.

Lyrics | Mongol 800 lyrics -
Chiisana Koi No Uta lyrics
Small love song (chiisana koi no uta)

One of many in this wide universe
In the great world of this blue earth
This tiny feeling of love will reach
You on the little island
Time have passed since I first met you
The letters with my feelings grow in numbers
Without us realizing, it is already echoing between us
Sometimes intense, sometimes sad
It echoes distantly
This gentle song changes the world

*Look, the person who is important to you
Is right beside you
I just want to reach only you
This echoing love song
Listen, Listen, Listen to this echoing love song

You noticed that even the dark street
We walk on is lit up by the moon every night
Not letting go of the hand I grasped
The feelings are strong, I promise forever
In the depths of forever, I’ll surely say
These same words with my feeling unchanged
But it’s still not enough and turns into tears
It turns into joy, I can’t put into words
Just embracing, just embracing

* Chorus

If it’s a dream, don’t wake up
If it’s a dream, don’t wake up
The time I spent with you
Will turn into everlasting stars

"明日やるは馬鹿やろうだ。"
-- Rei's grandfather, Proposal Daisakusen

Roughly translated, "Those who say they'll do it tomorrow are idiots".

I hope it won't take a Statistics major to understand this, I mean, I'm not a Statistics major yet I understand this.

I sacrificed a precious hour of time (FYP meeting tomorrow and nothing yet done!) to catch episode 1 of Proposal Daisakusen, which has been sitting in my computer since last night. It stars the ever-lovely Masami Nagasawa, which is also the reason why I'm watching J-dramas all of a sudden. The story is compelling: The moment you realise someone is the love of your life, is the moment he/she gets married to someone else. However, what if you were given a chance to do it all over again, to correct all your mistakes, to become the man by her side instead of just another guest at the wedding dinner?
So, first episode has been quite good. Masami Nagasawa is gorgeous in a wedding dress, much prettier than in 『世界の中心で』 because this time she isn't supposed to be sick. I laughed out loud quite a few times. The story wasn't lame, and wasn't too cliche (except for the bright-light-from-the-sky bit). So, recommended!

I must be getting soft, watching so much romance stuff.

And here's another really funny video from this week's Jap lecture. Much funnier than the previous one, in my opinion. And more easily understood even for non-Japanese speakers. No, it's not just because of the Chinese subtitles.

I wish I could show you guys a video of Nagami-sensei's lectures, so you'll understand why I'm gushing with praise.

I'm really glad to be taking Jap in NUS because I think we have the best lectures, lecturers and tutors in the whole of Singapore. The amount of effort our senseis put into the lessons is way beyond my expectations, and I am in total awe of them. Nagami-sensei must spend hours every day sourcing for all the pictures and videos that he uses in his lectures. Every lecture we learn not just about particles and tenses, but also about places, people and traditions in Japan. These are the most enjoyable lectures I've ever attended.

In this week's lectures, this video cracked us all up. It's about the things you shouldn't do in cinemas..

Save The Words. Words that are seeing declining use in print and speech, and only exist in the dictionary. You can choose to adopt-a-word, and pledge to use it as often as you can. Cool concept, worth a visit.
