Sunday, October 26, 2008 As a Chelsea supporter this latest loss to Liverpool really hurt. Liverpool is really our jinx, because we keep losing big matches to them: Champions League Final, and now they've also ended our 4-year+ unbeaten run at home. Although I feel Liverpool didn't deserve to win, leading as they did through a lucky strike by Alonso, I do feel that Chelsea deserved to lose this one. There were enough glaring problems with the team today that they were expectedly unable to recover from being one goal down. The defence struggled to deal with Riera's dribbling and pace, and Kuyt's industrious running. Lampard and Mikel lost out to Mascherano and Gerrard. And the strikers played with a distinct lack of confidence, and squandered enough chances to deserve the loss. Psychologically Chelsea was at a disadvantage, being the ones with more to lose, and the pressure mounted even more when they went a goal down. They weren't able to rally themselves mentally, and that was reflected in the way they played. Hopefully the team will wake up after this defeat, and exact revenge during the away fixture.
