Tuesday, June 23, 2009 Tuesday, June 16, 2009 Today I gave a practice talk about FireCite in preparation for the upcoming workshop. Today I received 3 email expressing interest in it, 2 from people who were there during the practice talk, 1 from pure serendipity. I'm really elated to know that what I did is of use and interest to others, it's a second for me (first was a minor mod I did for a game). Someone should invent a pair of spectacles that makes everyone appear to smile. I was already really nervous because the presentation slides were done yesterday and I'd barely rehearsed what I wanted to say. Seeing people in the audience frown at me makes me even more jittery because I wonder if I'm getting through to them. Although I realise that I frown when I'm in the audience also, when I'm digesting what I'm hearing. Not looking at the audience is a Bad Speaking Practice that will lead to People Not Paying Attention, so that's no solution. Meanwhile I guess I just have to practice so much that the words come out automatically regardless of my mental condition. All in all this week has been pretty nice to me so far, let's hope the rest of my last week of freedom is as good as this. :-) Friday, June 12, 2009 Thursday, June 11, 2009 Like fireworks in the sky, brilliant but only for an instant. Like splotches of colour on a otherwise barren canvas of life, their beautiful presence serves to highlight the bleakness of the whole. I finger each splotch of colour tenderly, savouring the cheerful hues, but my eyes cannot ignore the deep blackness that surrounds these splotches and seem to threaten to consume them. It's been quite a while since I've been emo, since I've had time to be emo, huh? Now I wish I was buried in work again, enough of rest already. |
